On our last visit to New Orleans, we found ourselves on a morning stroll through the streets of the Quarter and came upon the delicate old building that is the home of Pere Antoine. This stately bistro is all at once a casual cafe and home to all the traditions of New Orleans cooking.
This was a breakfast stop for us so, we chose to sample some truly classic southern eye openers. Grits, Cajun Omelets and chicory coffee were the winners of the day and these recipes hit the spot. I must add that, while none of our entrees were ground breaking innovations on the food frontier, we were very pleased with the presentation and flavor. I only wish we would have had time to try them for dinner.
If you ever find yourself on a morning stroll in the French Quarter, do your best to stumble upon Pere Antoine and seize the opportunity to enjoy some true New Orleans cooking. rps. |
