Henry Ford was the one to blame for all this. He thought if you made each one just like the last one somehow it would be better than if you added a margin for individuality. Granted restaurant chains don't roll off of assembly lines but they might as well. When was the last time you had a unique dining experience under the Golden Arches?
Enter On The Border. This is corporate food, exercising the familiar formula that we have all come to condone and submit to. The cliche wall decorations, the up-sell appetizer at the beginning of the meal, the up-sell desert at the end. Restaurants like these blur the line between wait staff and sales teams. In the end, if you've reviewed one, you've probably reviewed them all.
Prepare to be confused. Ready? Ok....I actually enjoyed my meal at On The Border. The recipes are very good (though a little on the salty side) and after eating at several different versions of this restaurant, I am confidant that they are consistent from house to house. The portions are absolutely huge so prepare to get a to-go box. Your warned!
I found our waiter really very nice. Through the up-selling I know he is required to do, he made sure our drinks were full and answered all requests knowledgeably. You know, I think if I were to return to On The Border I would request his section and that is about as nice of a compliment a waiter could want.
If you go to On The Border, you know what you will get. So before you go, make sure this is what you want because there won't be any surprises. Don't go blaming Henry Ford if you didn't find your meal wildly new and exciting. You only have yourself to blame. rps. |
