Like most west side diners, We had passed by Dolores Restaurant thousands of times and never gave this old coffee shop a second look but after discovering that our 5:00 review appointment had gone out of business (Yes...the Blue Plate on Sawtelle is history) we gave it the traditional "what the hell" and went exploring.
When you pull into the parking lot, take a careful look at this classic place. What you see on the outside is exactly what your going to eat inside. This is old school coffee shop. Don't expect innovation. Don't expect adventure. Don't expect surprises. This is not west side Cuisine culture. This is 3:00AM after the bars close.
Breakfasts seem to be the hot item here. I did observe allot of burgers leaving the kitchen and they looked yummy. The Avo & Cheddar omelet was....substantial...expected...not disappointing. How's that? The eggplant parmesan sandwich was, well....fine. Service wasn't too personable but our waitress was on the spot and we didn't have to wait for a thing.
Dolores is comfortable, clean, homey and at 3:00 in the morning the price is right. rps. |
