As Mardi Gras approaches in New Orleans, diets can be seen flying out of windows right and left. Lent is looming and the restaurants, cafes and food stands that fill the Quarter are over-flowing with last minute crescent city revelers. We visited The Acme Oyster House at just such a moment and found it engulfed in anticipation of the big party.
Classic Po' boys, red beans & rice, gumbo and all of the Louisiana favorites are at home in this rackety French Quarter chow den. The oyster shucking is always great entertainment and they serve them by the bucketful. The evening we stumbled upon the Acme Oyster House, our earlier cuisine commitments were...well....seafood oriented and we opted out of trying the house specialty. Next time we are in New Orleans we will attempt another chew at the Acme, this time with the oysters. Instead, we ordered a few southern mouthfuls that were really very good. The red beans and rice, hush puppies and the roast beef po' boy were all a notch above and will stick to my ribs and my memory for sometime.
The skinny boils down to this. If you wish to partake in the true glories of louisiana style cooking, go to the Acme Oyster House and find your self in the fat of New Orleans. rps. |
